About the play
- Laughter laced with heartache in the Deep South -
In Hazlehurst, Mississippi, the three eccentric Magrath sisters reunite under one roof: Babe has just shot her husband, Meg's fled Hollywood, and Lenny is celebrating her birthday with a cookie. What follows is a darkly funny and deeply human story of shared trauma, fierce love, and awkward healing.
Beth Henley's Crimes of the Heart premiered in 1979 and quickly became a classic of American theatre, winning the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Blending Southern Gothic humour with aching vulnerability, this bittersweet comedy has delighted audiences for over four decades.
